Elements of art
Line- referring to a continuous mark, made on a surface, by a moving point.
This represents line through the lines on my flannel. Shape- an enclosed space that can be both geometric and organic.
This represents shape through the trapezoidal shape of my shoe. Form- three dimensional figures, or figures with the illusion of being three dimensional.
This represents form through the form of the roots. Space- the area between and around objects. The space around objects is of-ten called negative space; negative space has shape. Space can also refer to the feeling of depth. Real space is three-dimensional; in visual art, when we create the feeling or illusion of depth, we call it space.
This represents shape through the circular shape of the lenses that we are lookin into. |

Texture- how a surface of something feels or looks. It is the surface quality or "feel" of an object, its smoothness, roughness, softness, etc.
This represents texture through the pom-pom like texture of the bed. Color- light reflected off of objects. Color has three main characteristics: hue(the name of the color, such as red, green, blue, etc.), value (how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it is).
This represents color through the rainbow color of the flag. |
|
Value- the lightness or darkness of a color. It defines how light or dark a given color or hue can be. Values are best understood when visualized as a scale or gradient, from dark to light.
This represents value through the different shades of blue. |
